oh, Judy…

Over the last year or so my 3 year old daughter Zoe and I have watched a slew of old school Sesame Street and Electric Company on dvd. Being a child of the Seventies, it was a predictable enough path to take. I expected to feel the warmth of long buried nostalgic memories. Sure enough, I did, and was pleased to find this vintage television still very appealing. What I didn’t expect was my reaction to watching Judy Graubart on The Electric Company.
Overshadowed by the likes of Morgan Freeman and Rita Moreno, she never enjoyed similar success post-Electric Co. Outside of EC she could be spotted in some classic 70s television commercials (like these) but not too much else. I truly had forgotten about her.
That changed when I revisited the vintage PBS series. The dormant psycho-sexual bombshell that had been residing in my subconscious was reawakened! I’m not exactly sure where it came from, but I instantly formed a renewed and truly filthy obsession with Judy Graubart. Similarly, I have the same kind of lust for Madeline Khan and Fran Drescher, but that’s another story…
So imagine my delight when I recently discovered a liberated stash of polaroids and snapshots from the continuity department at the Electric Co.! Breezing past similarly candid photos of the aforementioned Freeman and Moreno, I crossed my fingers that I would find her well represented in the pile of flea market photographs. Mission accomplished! Check them out below…

a quick update

Hola!

Here are a couple things I must bring to your attention. My artwork has been spotted in the film “Eat, Pray, Love”. I haven’t seen it as of today but I’m working on it. Also, if you like cooking shows, my collages have been featured on “Cooking For Real” with Sunny Anderson on the Food Network – check it out.

I would also like to give shout outs to Yard Dog in Austin, TX and John Derian in New York, NY. You can find my artwork at both of these fine places along with lots of other great things!

I will be returning to the Garage in Chelsea, NYC this Saturday September 4th with a bunch of great new stuff. Come say Hi (and buy something, ok?). Also, next week I’ll be in Brimfield, MA shopping and selling at Dealers Choice and Heart O the Mart – See you there!

Back from Bouckville

Just returned home from an astoundingly fun buying trip in upstate New York! My van was full! I’m actually sort of bummed I’m still not up there buying more! However, there’s work to do, I really missed Zoe and the tomatoes are really piling up here.
My 5 favorite things about Madison Bouckville 2010
1. The weather and windmills. Sunny, cool breezes, lovely.
2. Gannon’s Ice Cream and Clark’s Ale House in nearby Syracuse.
3. Seeing my pal Josh and my nieces Lili & Azriel.
4. A cute gal blasting “Get Your Ya Ya’s Out” in her tent.
5. The nurse painting!
I’ve uploaded some new things to the available antiques section – check it out. More to come later this week!
If you haven’t done so, please check out the great stuff West Elm created out of my artwork! Unbelievably, the dog silhouette plates are already sold out online. Check with your local West Elm location to see if they have any in stock!
Here’s a picture of my friend Josh Lowenfels inspecting an old paint bucket he ended up buying from me up there. Please have a look at his website too – it’s mind -blowingly good stuff!

summer break

Enjoying a break from the heat! A thunderstorm blew through here yesterday and now we’ve been blessed with sunny skies and 79 degrees. My tomatoes are starting to ripen – I’m very excited!
I’ve added a few new items to the currently available antiques gallery, including some summer-themed snapshots. Have a look.
Be sure to check out my collaboration with West Elm!
Here’s a cool video featuring Laurie Anderson. Thanks for checking in with Lo and Behold!

That said, I will be at the Great Eastern Summer Paper Show in Allentown, PA on Saturday, July 17. The show runs from 9 am – 6 pm. Strangely enough, this will be the first show I’ve ever done in Pennsylvania.
Here’s what’s in current audio rotation at Lo & Behold World Headquarters this week:
Allen Toussaint – Life, Love and Faith
The Black Keys – Brothers
Professor Longhair – Crawfish Fiesta
Swell Maps – Jane From Occupied Europe
